Guyana Is A Multicultural Society!

June 09-2013:

Guyana Is A Multicultural Society!

There was a time long ago in our history when we could identify any of the SIX ethnic groups within our national culture. Today, that is not so clearly identified.

The Indian and Black predominance is also being diluted, making it ridiculous for any rational Guyanese with the visual ability of sight to say without any doubt, that we are now more or less a Truly Multi-Ethnic people.

For those Guyanese (politicians included), who still use the ethnic platform to create superficial divisions, or to gain sympathetic votes. I say you are being called out for your wicked ways, and collective mischief making actions.

We can no longer tolerate this kind of divisive manipulation  of our minds and actions, by those bent on making a buck politically, socially, or economically.

Education:

We hear at home and on the world's stage that education is the key to economic and social progress in any Democracy or democratic leaning state. And I totally agree with this observation and reality. But education alone is not enough. We as a collective MUST join the vanguard to promote unity in our schools, neighborhoods, communities, and mainstream levels.

When we travel abroad, (those who can), must also sell our culture in a very positive light. On FaceBook, Twitter, Friendfeed, MySpace, and at every social event we find ourselves in. Not only the negative, but the positive aspects. And last but not least, encourage and engage dialogue with Guyanese at every Social, Cyber, and International level.

Finally:

Let us all resolve to make a personal contribution towards the economic, social, societal, and political development of our beautiful country Guyana Today, Tomorrow, Un-waveringly!

Blacks Have Sunk To The Lowest Social Denominator In Guyana Currently!

May 29-2012.

Blacks Have Sunk To The Lowest Social Denominator In Guyana Currently!

Socially and politically, Blacks in Guyana have brought this depravity upon themselves. Because they have failed to be vigilant, resolute, and refuse to address those problems whenever it occurs. Most would rather take care of his/her own affairs, and let the others take care of themselves.

While others see themselves as in transit Guyanese, or those who can afford to travel overseas, work, or indulge in  illicit activities, accumulate wealth, and show it off to fellow Guyanese at home, with new homes, and other material stuff from the USA.

It is appalling to see just how low the Blacks have fallen in Guyana. But do not blame this dilemma solely on the government and politics. Blame all Guyanese for allowing themselves to be conned, cajoled, and bribed into thinking some are better than others.

REFERENCE:

For every ten Afro-Guyanese boys who entered school in September last year (2011), four will make it to the end of the school year.

Many of these drop-outs find menial work as sweepers, helpers and gofers; others head for the Gold bush to seek their fortunes ( many never returning); still others become easy recruits for a vastly growing criminal underworld, fueled by drugs and gun trafficking.

The reminder resort to “living off the land”, many end up as vagrants, petty thieves and comprise a growing lumpenproletariat that inhabit the commercial districts of the major population centers.

The Camp Street Prison located in the heart of the Capital is a symbol of national shame. Fyodor Dostoevsky, author of Crime and Punishment, is credited with saying; “The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons.” If we accept this to be true then Guyana is developing some dubious and degenerative dynamics.

Built to house  610 inmates the Georgetown Prison now houses over 1100 detainees, due in large part to a pre-trial back log, ( people awaiting their day in court) they represent 60% of the prison population. Take a walk inside the walls of the prison; the place is not fit for animals, let alone human beings. Men sleeping  head-to-toe in cells, packed like sardines; most without mattresses and without proper bedding; hammocks hanging from the ceiling in rows all the way down to the floor where men lie on pieces of cardboard.

The stench of human sweat and urine soaked into a hundred year old concrete floors. In the evening they stuff their ears and their nostrils; they put bread and other treats in corners to deflect the cockroaches  from crawling into their unguarded orifices

Guyana Police Chief Given The Boot:

April 04-2012.

Guyana Police Chief Given The Boot:

The latest call came from former minister of Human Services and Social Security Priya Manickchand, who was responsible for piloting the New Sexual Offences Act of 2010.

Manickchand is the highest ranking government official so far to call for Henry Greene to step down.

CONCLUSION:

If this update is correct, then I am grateful that serious efforts were taken to ensure that Justice is done in Guyana finally!

Sexually Active Men & Women In Public Office!

Sexually Active Men & Women In Public Office!

It Is all About Ethics:

Without stated and acceptable ethical guidelines, it would be very difficult to hold Public Officials accountable for their sexual activities outside of legal marriage, for acceptable public behavior.

If you are a married man or woman, it is naturally expected that you behave in such a manner befitting that role, and the obligation expected from you to maintain proper moral behavior.

Of course, if you are Muslim, you may feel that your religion allows you to have several wives or mistresses, and may conflict with Christian values or morality.

Therefore, if you are Muslim, and subscribe to the view that having several wives or mistresses is what you believe and subscribe to, let it be known publicly, or before accepting an elected Public Office.

Personal Values And Public Expectations:

No one should be held accountable to the public if he/she is unfaithful to his/her spouse. That matter is strictly personal and private. But if word gets out to the media about this, it should be declared by the alleged party that such matter is private, and will not be entertained publicly.

However, if an elected Public Official's personal behavior interferes with his/her Public Duties or functions. Then the commonweal MUST ask that he/she be relieved of his/her duties, pending an investigation or resignation.

Justice Must Be Done Or Seem To Be Done!

March 25-2012:

TO: The Editor.
kaieteurnews@yahoo.com

Justice Must Be Done Or Seem To Be Done!

If president Donald Ramotar is not inclined to pursue corruption investigation about the dealings of his predecessor Jagdeo. Then the commonweal MUST ensure that he does so with some haste. Until this matter is addressed, the people will be inclined to believe that justice will never be done, and their quest for 'Turning The Page' and moving forward with a CLEAN slate, is just a passing fancy with this new administration.

In any true or developing Democracy mistakes will be made, privileges taken, and elected officials will try to ensure they are not held accountable to the people who hired them in the first place to manage the affairs of state.

However, with vigilance, engagement from the masses, transparency from above, and resolve from below. This matter and all other matters of injustice alleged by the commonweal MUST be pursued unwaveringly.

Failing to do these things, ensures the continuance of all those irregularities, and ills the people fought assiduously to eradicate from our midst and government.

Sincerely,

Derryck S. Griffith

Pensioners And NIS Benefits!

Ref: Pensioners And NIS Benefits!

As far as I am aware, the N.I.S. Retirement Pension Qualification Optimum is 750 paid contributions @ 1989.

I also feel that in keeping with rising food costs, health care costs, and other daily needs and expenses, especially for pensioners.

Increasing the N.I.S. Retirement Pension premium is absolutely necessary.

As for the other benefits like Invalidity, Hospitalization, and Funeral/Burial Cost Benefits.

These too should be reviewed, and some increases be considered too.

Sincerely,

Derryck S. Griffith.

State Computer Laptop Training In Guyana!

TO: The Editor. kaieteurnews@yahoo.com

State Computer Laptop Training In Guyana!

I am appalled to hear that he government has defaulted on the payment to several people slated to teach recipients how to use this utility.

I strongly feel that such training could be done at certain centralized facilities, that can accommodate large numbers of people, and using the video screen teaching technology, to explain how it is used in weekly or at weekend sessions.

Trainers can be given a stipend/fee for their work, ( after completing their slated sessions), or the training exercises.

Trainers MUST also be proficient in Computer operating skills, Windows, Internet access and usage.

And ensure that all who sign on to teach these skills are dependable, has the necessary verbal skills to teach the recipients, and are committed to this venture.

They must be monitored on the job (as such), and removed if or when found to be behaving inappropriately in their mannerisms, intolerant, or dis-respectful to those they teach.
